First printing. Northern California local and family history. From the preface: 'This book may be of interest to those whose ancestors were residents of the United States and whose people pioneered, like my ancestors, and helped develop this country from the Atlantic to the Pacific. It is a history of the Wilson and Hanson families and of their journeys and activities during the past century, and that of their neighbors and friends.' Written when the author was 75, this includes, in addition to the family histories, brief reminiscences from the author's boyhood (about Ring the faithful dog, Benjamin, the peddler, Sol Rossiter the wanderer, school days and much more), commentaries on news articles and local events over the years (the first dentist in Willows, the murder of Dr Glenn, the solar eclipse of 1889) and sections on the Indians of Lake County , snakes, wildflowers, hunting, independent farming, Mostly Glenn County, but also Colusa, Sutter County, Lake County, Yuba City and more. Since this was published by the author "for his family and friends" it is quite uncommon. Illustrated with 16 glossy plates. 191 pp. Very good in dark red covers, gilt lettering on the spine and front cover. Minor wear to the covers, some discoloration to the endpapers due to binder's glue. Binding is tight and sturdy, pages are supple and white. .
