#1 - TRIXIE BELDEN AND THE SECRET OF THE MANSION.   (Campbell, Julie.)

A.  Hardcover.  Racine, WI: Whitman, 1948.  First edition. Illustrated by Mary Stevens.  Good condition, bound in variant dark green boards with orange lettering (peeled spot on front cover, usual age-toning to paper, some edgewear and wear to the corners, but the binding is tight and straight, the contents clean.)    24859     $25.00

B.  Hardcover in dustjacket.  NY: Golden Press, 1959.  Uncommon edition with the with the diamond-spine dust jacket by Herbert Tauss. The dustjacket has a synopsis on front flap, price of $1.00, and the 1959 date.  The rear flap  'about the author' and 'about the artist', illustrator Mary Stevens. Bound in red and pink diamond patterned boards, with green and white diamond endpapers.  Some edgewear to the dj, especially at the top of the spine, and some delamination, but overall the cover illustration is bright and attractive, and  the book is a nice tight copy - thus very good- in a very good- dustjacket.   21245     $75.00

C.  Hardcover in dustjacket. NY: Golden Press, 1959.  Uncommon edition with the with the diamond-spine dust jacket by Herbert Tauss. A reissue of the first title in the series in a new fomat (the last one for these books)  introduced in 1984 and only used for 2 years.  After publishing several new titles in 1980, there was a gap of 4 years, and then over the next 3 years only 5 new titles were produced before the series ended in 1986.  These last 5 titles had a different design on the cover (the 'square' format picture) and were illustrated with drawings - and many of the earlier titles were also produced briefly with this format.   Cover by Jody Lee. Good only condition (some creasing to covers and spine, toning inside covers.)   26186   $5.00

#2.  TRIXIE BELDEN AND THE RED TRAILER MYSTERY.  (Campbell, Julie.)

A. Trade paperback.  Square illustration on front cover.  While not as well known as Nancy Drew, this is many girls' favorite series:  Trixie is a real girl, with chores, school to attend, a little brother to babysit - but lots of adventures!  This is a reissue  in a new fomat (the last one used for this series) which was introduced in 1984 and only used for 2 years, and so is much less common than the ones with the oval illustration.  They had a  different design on the cover (the 'square' format picture); the last 5 titles appeared only in this format,  and not all of the earlier titles were issued like this.   Cover by Jerry Harston. A. Hardcover.  Racine, WI: Whitman, ca 1954.  Cellophane edition.   A very good example in the most fragile binding used for this series.  Slight delamination, crack to binding before title page, but overall a straight and attractive copy.   23826         $10.00

A.   Racine, WI: Golden Press, 1984.  Trade paperback. A reissue in a new fomat (the last one for these books)  introduced in 1984 and only used for 2 years.  After publishing several new titles in 1980, there was a gap of 4 years, and then over the next 3 years only 5 new titles were produced before the series ended in 1986.  These last 5 titles had a different design on the cover (the 'square' format picture) and were illustrated with drawings - and many of the earlier titles were also produced briefly with this format.   Cover by Jody Lee. B.   Racine, WI: Golden Press, 1956.  Original cellophane binding format, in an early printing, probably around 1958. Partial list of Trixie titles in the back of the book includes number 6 in the series.  Photo album endpapers.  Duotone illustrations by Mary Stevens.  Overall very good condition: a relatively inconspicuous previous owner's name on front endpaper, just a slight beginning of delamination at the front joint.   Better than average for this fragile binding.    22798    $12.00

C.   Later printing.  The 'plain' format: the last hardcover format used for this series.  Cover lists to #16 (with notation 'new') and a comment on the back cover about the 'brand-new look.'  Cover illustration by Larry Frederick. White endpapers, with orange drawingsof the Bob-Whites, now distinctly teenagers of the period (1970.)  Measures 7 3/4 by 5 1/8 inches. 230 pages. This  slightly larger format  (used only on the 1st 15 titles of the series, between 1966 and 1969), had matte illustrated boards and endpapers with oval portraits of Trixie and Honey.  15 titles listed in book.  Cover by Paul Frame, illustrated by Harris Petie in both full color and duo-tone plates.  Very good-  (light wear to covers, prev owner's name, crack to  binding just before title page but otherwise tight, spine straight, contents clean.   25037         $14.00

The very hard-to-find last title in the series.   This was issued only in the format with the 'square' illustration by Jody Lee on the front cover, and with black and white illustrations by Jim Spence throughout the book. As the last one in a series which was soon after discontinued, far fewer copies were printed of this title. Near fine in illustrated wrappers - no reading creases, light crease to lower corner of front cover, no writing in the book - an exceptionally nice copy for a popular children's book.   21956         $135.00
