Includes a foreword by Nancy E. Gwinn, essays by Michael Dirda and Storrs Olson. The exhibition (and this book) is divided into three major sections - Journeys over Land and Sea, Journeys of the Mind, Journeys of the Imagination - and features book about flight, travel, exploration, natural history, children's books, book arts, architecture and more, fully illustrated in black and white, sepia tone, and full color - sometimes with 2 or more photographs for one book. INSCRIBED on the title page by Thomas, the curator of the show, who also wrote an essay on the history of the Smithsonian Libraries for this book. Index.
