THE SHADOW ON THE DIAL. by Seaman, Augusta Huiell.

THE SHADOW ON THE DIAL.

Edition: Probable first edition.

New York: The Century Co., (1927.). Hardcover first edition - Gift inscription dated January, 1928, so if not a first, a very early printing. The last of Seaman's mysteries to be published by Century. Mystery involving an antebellum mansion known as Pettigrew's Folly near the South Carolina coast - and a broken sundial, treasure buried to hide it from Sherman's raiders, and a hurricane. Illustrated with a glossy frontispiece and three inserted plates by Manning de Vere Lee (illustrator not identified on title page, but the plates are signed.) 224 pp.

Condition: Fair copy only in aqua cloth with black and yellow illustrated front cover - all the flaws one would expect to find in a children's book which has been read many times: hinges cracked, some corners dogeared, soiling and wear to cloth covers, some fraying at ends of the spine, closed tears on pp 11-12, 33-36, but still a good reading copy of one of Seaman's more difficult to find books.
