After the death of their father, two sisters come to New Jersey to live with an uncle they never knew existed, and discover that Uncle Si, who sells antiques and second hand furniture, lives in a run-down but gracious old house, which harbors many mysteries -including one room which is kept locked and empty. Illustrated by Irving Nurick (colored frontispiece and green and black illustrated endpapers.) 309 pp. Reprinted many times (it went into later printings very quickly), the first edition (stated on the copyright page) is rather uncommon. Good in orange cloth with black lettering and 4 black lines above and below the title (some spine slant, bookplate on front endpaper, short tear to head of spine, contents very good and clean) .
