PEGGY PARKER, GIRL INVENTOR.

Edition: First edition.

Racine, WI: Whitman Publishing Co., (1946.) dj. Hardcover first edition - Another Whitman series that failed to offer any serious competition to the Stratemeyer syndicate, since only one title was published in this series (in fact, was "Peggy Parker" trying to capitalize on Mildred Wirt Benson's "Penny Parker" series?) This book is a bit of an anomaly since on the one hand it has an interesting early feminist viewpoint - the first picture's caption is "Peggy Parker enjoyed working with tools" - but much of it is set in the South, and unfortunately, racist and stereotypical attitudes towards Blacks dominate there. Illustrated by Dorothy Colburn. 248 pp.

Condition: Good in dark blue covers with orange lettering, no dust jacket (penciled gift inscription dated Christmas 1946.)
