The first trip in 1926 , originally planned for 3 months but actually involving 7 months, was a safari in Kenya, East Africa arranged by noted hunter Leslie Tarlton and his company Safariland. On that trip Ira was accompanied by his oldest son Philip who had just graduated from Dartmouth. The second account is by Ira's wife, Julie, and is a description of her first trip (Ira's 5th) in 1935 in British East Africa - a trip notable for its untypical rainy weather.
