BY SOOCHOW WATERS.

Edition: First UK printing.

London: Hodder & Stoughton, nd [1929]. Hardcover first edition - Novel of two older childless women living in China: one a reclusive Englishwoman who was the widow of a wealthy Chinese man, and who had adopted Chinese customs, and the other, an American woman, a writer who wants to know the story of the Englishwoman, and of a younger English girl who comes into their lives. While her novels often reflect the prejudices of her day (Miln writes frequently of interracial romance and marriage, yet sees interracial children as a 'problem'), Miln, who first traveled to China with a theater group, truly loved Asian culture, and her novels reflect this also.
