Best known for her biography of Cecil Rhodes, her reputation as a writer has declined since her death, partly because of her politics and her later position as an apologist for apartheid. This novel is the story of the conflict between Levites, a religious cult containing members of many South Africa tribes, and the Vigilance Association, a group formed to make sure the 'kaffirs' stayed in their place. A young Jewish doctor who stays with the blacks to try and avert the deaths from the inevitable coming massacre, because 'they are human beings.' 284 pp.

Condition: Just about fine in orange cloth with black lettering and two small devices on front cover, lacking the dust jacket.
