Limited, signed edition. The first SIGNED, limited edition of this play, issued a day after the trade edition - this is copy #52 of only 158 numbered copies signed by the author. (there was a later and much more common signed edition of 500 copies.) This play was the libretto for the first really successful opera by an American composer (Deems Taylor); the plot was based on a tenth-century Saxon story with similarities to Wagner's 'Tristan und Isolde'. A handsome production, printed on Tuscany handmade paper, and bound in cloth-backed decorated boards, Woodcut frontispiece and header. Extra spine label tipped to rear pastedown. 133 pp. Very near fine - a little chipping and rubbing to the spine label, but a replacement label is still tipped into the rear of the book. The very uncommon original slipcase is in poor condition - it is separated into two pieces and is missing the top and rear, but is rarely found at all. . |
