McCunn, Ruthanne Lum SOLE SURVIVOR. San Francisco: Design Enterprises of S.F., (1985.) Hardcover First Edition

First printing. Although written as a novel, this account is based on three years of interviews with Poon Lim and his family - it is the almost incredible story of survival at sea. Poon Lim was a Chinese steward on the British merchantman Benlomond, which was torpedoed and lost in the south Atlantic in 1942; he survived 133 days at sea, alone on a wooden raft, until he was rescued off the coast of Brazil, the longest survival at sea. Cover praise from James D. Houston and Dorothy Bryant, who comments that Poon Lim is "a hero , not of macho bluster or blind will, but one of subtle intelligence, resourcefulness, patience and endurance." Maps, photographs, author's note. 235 pp. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket (tiny closed tear to the upper edge of back cover of dj.) .ISBN # 0-932538614
