GUARDIAN ANGEL AND OTHER STORIES.

Edition: First edition.

New York: Harrison Smith and Robert Haas, 1932. dj. Hardcover first edition - The fourth book (second collection of short stories) published by this author during her life, a life which was cut short with her death in childbirth at the age of 33. These stories reveal her as a writer in a surprisingly ironic and modern idiom, one who focused much of her attention on women artists and on the repressed lives of women. In fact, considering her death, it is indeed ironic that the final story ends with the young housewife Margot whispering to herself "I have my child inside me. I love my husband. I love the world. Thank you, God." 308 pp.

Condition: Near fine in the second state binding of light green cloth with Random House on the spine in a fair only dust jacket (sunning to the spine, long tear down the middle of the spine - and most significantly, a large piece is missing from the lower edge of the bottom front cover and it has been 'repaired' with brown tape.) Despite the flaws, this book is extremely scarce in the original edition and even more so in dust jacket.
