First appearance in print of most of these works. The first appearance of Keyes' classic story - a short novelet, winner of the Hugo for best short fiction, and basis for both the 1968 film 'Charly' for which Cliff Robertson won an Oscar in the title role, and the 2000 televison movie under the name 'Flowers for Algernon'. Also included in this issue is a novelet by McCaffrey which is just her second published story after a 6 year gap! (following the 1953 appearance of 'Freedom of the Race' in Science Fiction Plus) and storiesby Isaac Asimov, Jane Roberts, Poul Anderson and more. Includes an excerpt from Aldous Huxley on 'Chemical Persuasion.' Although Keyes name is not mentioned on the front cover of this issue, the cover art by Emsh is for 'Flowers for Algernon'! A very uncommon and desireable issue, in collectible condition. Very good minus condition: usual toning to the pages, slight spine slant, no creases but approx 1 cm tear at base of spine - an attractive bright copy overall. . |
