Jamal, Hakim (Allen Donaldson.) FROM THE DEAD LEVEL: Malcolm X and Me. London: Andre Deutsch, 1971. Hardcover First Edition

First printing. The story of a street hustler, alcoholic and heroin addict, who knew Macolm X from his Boston days when he was the hustler Malcolm Little, and who later in prison, had Malcolm X return to his life, when he converted to the Black Muslims. This UK edition precedes the US edition - and Diana Athill, the editor at Andre Deutch responsible for this book, recounts much of her history with Jamal in her book 'Make Believe.' While Jamal was only a minor player in the events of the 60's, this is a vivid picture of the time. Near fine in near fine dust jacket ( a bit of foxing to the edges of the textblock, price-clipped dj.) Uncommon. .ISBN # 0-233-962565
