Her melange of Caribbean traditions and folklore with science fiction, written in a variation of Creole, has gained her much acclaim and a long list of awards and nominations. Her first novel won the John W. Campbell award for best new writer, the Aspect first novel contest and was a finalist for the Philip K. Dick award.
