First appearance in print of these works. Originally established in 1931 by Whit Burnett and Martha Foley, STORY magazine was noted for publishing strong fiction by new and established authors. This is the first issue when, after a gap of 22 years, it was revived by Richard and Lois Rosenthal. Each issue features new fiction plus one classic story from the early years of the magazine. This issue is SIGNED by A.M. Homes at her story "Esther in the Night " (a very early publication of Homes, co-inciding more or less with the publication of her first novel - the biographical note preceding the story is notable for giving her full name: Amy Michael Homes.) Also includes an excerpt from Norman Mailer's then-unpublished "Harlot's Ghost", and short stories by Rick Bass, Robert Olmstead, Sharon Sheehe Stark, Fred Chappell, Richard Currey, Wayne Johnson and others. The story classic is Erskine Caldwell's 1932 story "Indian Summer," Notes on the contributors precede each story. 128 pp. We specialize in literary journals, and have many others - including many not yet catalogued and listed on line. Very good in tan illustrated wrappers (soil soiling to covers.) . |
