Early printing. World War I - the Great War - adventure story featuring Tom Slade, Boy Scout - now an aviator. Illustrated by R. Emmett Owen with a glossy frontispiece, 3 glossy internal plates, 1 map. Notation on title page that this was 'published with the approval of the Boy Scouts of America.' 244 pp plus advertisements. Lists through #16 in back of book, through #13 on rear cover of dj. Bound in olive green cloth with black lettering on spine and brown lettering outlined in black on front. Photographic endpapers. Illustrated dustwrapper with wraparound green band at top and bottom with title and author in yellow lettering. Very good in a good dust jacket (some chipping to all edges of dj, including loss of up to 1 cm at top of spine, wear at folds.) .
