First printing in wrappers. No hardcover edition. A catalogue produced in conjunction with an exhibition of Bearden photomontages, described as perhaps the most revealing but least well known of his work. Includes text by Gail Gelburd and Thelma Golden, and a conversation with Albert Murray as well as a section of Bearden's poetry. Despite the title this is illustrated with many color illustrations as well as black and white ones and photographs of Bearden at work. Bearden began these works in 1963 using images from magazines and other sources to create a montage, and enlarging them by photostat, and they were first shown in 1964 - they demonstrate his concerns with civil rights and justice, among other themes. Selected bibliography. 88 pp. Fine (a new copy) in stiff illustrated wrappers. .ISBN # 0-87427-1045 |
